Like-for-like replacement
A damaged socket or switch changed for a new one of the same type, with the cable ends checked.

A socket that is cracked, loose, warm or scorched is no longer safe to use. We replace damaged switches and sockets, add power points where you rely on extension leads, and fit dimmers, USB sockets and outdoor sockets across Doha.
If the plate is hot, smells of burning or has sparked, switch off the circuit at the DB board and call the emergency electrician line.

A new point beside the bed, behind the TV or on the kitchen counter, fed from the nearest suitable circuit.
A socket or switch shifted to suit new furniture or a new kitchen layout.
Sockets with built-in USB ports, and double sockets in place of singles.
Dimmers matched to your LED lighting, and regulators for a ceiling fan.
Weatherproof sockets with covers for the yard, the roof and the garden.
The circuit is switched off at the DB board and tested before the plate is opened.
Burnt or brittle ends are cut back to clean copper. If the damage runs into the wall, we tell you before going further.
The terminals are tightened properly, since loose terminals are what burn sockets in the first place.
Polarity and earth are checked, then the socket is tried under load.

One burnt socket is a socket fault. Several on the same circuit point to the cable or the breaker behind them. In that case the next step is wiring repair or a circuit breaker check.
Nearly always a loose connection. A terminal that is not tight, or contacts worn by years of plugging in, create resistance, and resistance makes heat. A heavy appliance such as a heater or kettle on that socket speeds it up.
No. A scorch mark shows the socket has already overheated at least once. The damage inside is usually worse than it looks from the front, and it gets worse with every use.
Often, yes. In many buildings the cables run in conduits, so a new point can sometimes be fed through an existing conduit, or run in neat surface trunking. A fully hidden socket in a new position needs a channel cut in the wall, which is then filled.
There is no single number. What matters is the total load on the circuit and the rating of its breaker and cable. We check what already runs on the circuit before adding points to it.
The usual causes are a connection that has come loose behind that socket, a worn socket, or a break in the cable feeding it. All three need the plate opened and the circuit tested.
Yes. They replace a standard socket in the same wall box in most cases, so there is no cutting and the job is quick.
