Fans and Appliances

Ceiling Fan and Appliance Installation in Doha

A ceiling fan has to hold its own weight while spinning for years, and a cooker draws more current than any ordinary socket should carry. We hang, wire and test fans and household appliances in Doha so they run safely from the first day.

We install and connect

  • Ceiling fans and exhaust fans
  • Cookers, ovens and hobs
  • Washing machines and dryers
  • Dishwashers
  • Doorbells and video doorbells
  • Electric door locks

What a Safe Ceiling Fan Installation Needs

The fixing matters more than the fan. A ceiling fan must hang from a hook or bracket anchored into the concrete slab. Gypsum board and thin ceiling panels cannot carry a moving load, so in a room with a false ceiling the support has to pass through to the slab above.

Height comes next. The blades should be at least 2.1 metres above the floor and clear of walls, wardrobes and hanging lights. For a low ceiling we fit a short rod or a flush-mount fan.

Last is control. The fan needs its own switch and a regulator matched to the motor, or a remote receiver wired inside the canopy. A fan with a light kit needs one more wire from the switch if you want to control the light separately.

Before the fan goes up, we check:

  • The ceiling type and what is above it
  • A fixing rated for the weight of the fan
  • Blade height and clearance
  • The condition of the cable at the ceiling point
  • That the regulator suits the fan

Ceiling Fan Problems We Repair

Most fan faults come down to a small part. These are the ones we are called for most.

  • WobbleLoose blade screws, a bent blade arm or an unbalanced set. We tighten, align and balance.
  • HummingOften the regulator, or a capacitor near the end of its life.
  • Slow, or will not startA weak capacitor is the usual cause, and it is a small part to change.
  • Clicking or grindingWorn bearings, or something loose inside the canopy.
  • Fan runs but its light does notA failed lamp holder, pull switch or connection in the light kit.
  • The regulator gets hotIt is undersized or failing and should be replaced before it burns out.
Appliances

Appliance Connections

An appliance is only as safe as the circuit it is connected to.

Cookers, ovens and hobs

Connected to their own circuit through a cooker switch, with cable sized for the load. If the kitchen has no cooker circuit, we run one from the DB board.

Washing machines, dryers and dishwashers

The socket position and the earth connection are checked, so the machine does not trip the ELCB the first time it heats.

Exhaust and extractor fans

Bathroom and kitchen fans fitted and wired to the light switch or to a switch of their own.

Doorbells and electric locks

Wired and wireless doorbells, video doorbells, and electric door locks with their power supply.

Before you buy

Four Checks Before You Buy a Large Appliance

Five minutes with the rating plate can save a return trip to the shop.

  1. Read the rating plate. It shows the power in watts or kilowatts. Anything above about 3 kW cannot run from an ordinary 13 A socket.
  2. Look at where it will stand. Is there a socket or cooker switch within reach of its cable, without an extension lead?
  3. Find out what shares the circuit. An oven on the same circuit as the kitchen sockets will trip the breaker.
  4. Send us the model number. With it we can tell you before delivery whether the existing circuit will do.

Fan or appliance still in its box?Tell us what it is and where it is going. We will bring the right fixings.

New appliances often show up the limits of an old installation. If the kitchen needs more power points, see extra sockets. Hanging new light fittings at the same time saves a second visit.

FAQ

Fan and Appliance Questions

My room has a false ceiling. Can I still have a ceiling fan?

Yes. The fan is not fixed to the false ceiling itself. A rod or bracket is anchored to the concrete slab above and passes through a small opening, which the canopy then covers.

Why does my ceiling fan wobble?

The common causes are loose blade screws, blades at slightly different angles, or a set of blades that is out of balance. All three can be corrected without replacing the fan.

Do you assemble the fan as well as wire it?

Yes. We assemble it, hang it, connect it, fit the regulator or remote receiver, and balance the blades before we leave.

Does a cooker need its own circuit?

An electric cooker or a built-in oven does. It draws far more than a socket circuit is designed for, so it is fed by its own cable from the DB board through a cooker switch.

Why does my washing machine trip the power?

Usually a little current is leaking to earth inside the machine, from the heating element or from damp reaching the motor or wiring. We test the machine and the socket circuit separately to see which one is at fault.

Can you install a video doorbell or an electric door lock?

Yes. Both need a power supply and a cable route to the door. We check these at the free first visit and include them in the written quote.
