Water Tank Cleaning and Filter Installation in Doha

The water Kahramaa delivers to your meter is treated and tested. What happens next is up to the property: the tank it sits in, the pipes it travels through and the heat on the roof. We clean tanks, fit filters and protect heaters from scale.

Is Tap Water in Qatar Clean?

The mains supply is desalinated, treated and monitored by Kahramaa. Most quality problems at the tap start after the meter: sediment and slime in a tank that has not been cleaned, a lid left open, or old pipes. Keeping the tank clean and filtering at the right point solves the large majority of complaints.

Services

Three Ways We Protect Your Water

Tank cleaning and disinfection

Ground and roof tanks drained, scrubbed, disinfected and rinsed, with the float valve and lid checked before refilling.

Filter installation

A sediment filter on the main line for the whole house, or a multi-stage filter under the kitchen sink for drinking water.

Scale protection

Scale shortens the life of heaters, mixers and shower heads. We flush heaters and fit protection on the line that feeds them.

Tank cleaning

How a Water Tank Is Cleaned

  1. Isolate and drain

The inlet is closed and the tank emptied. The last few centimetres, where the sediment lies, are removed by hand, not sent through your pipes.

  2. Scrub

Walls, floor and the underside of the lid are scrubbed to lift slime and scale.

  3. Disinfect

The surfaces are treated with a chlorine solution and left for the contact time it needs.

  4. Rinse and refill

The tank is rinsed until the water runs clear, then refilled.

  5. Check the fittings

Float valve, overflow, vent screen and lid seal are inspected. A lid that does not close is how most contamination gets in.

Filters

Whole-House Filter or Under-Sink Filter?

Whole-house filter

Fitted on the main line after the tank or pump.

  • Stops sand and rust reaching every tap
  • Protects heaters, mixers and washing machines
  • Cartridge is changed every few months
  • Does not change the taste of the water

Under-sink filter

Fitted in the kitchen cabinet with its own small tap.

  • Several stages for drinking and cooking water
  • Improves taste and smell
  • Needs space in the cabinet and a drain connection
  • Filters one tap only

Many homes use both: a simple sediment filter for the whole house, and a finer filter in the kitchen for drinking water.

FAQ

Tank and Filter Questions

How often should a water tank be cleaned?

Every six to twelve months suits most homes. Clean it sooner if you see sediment at the taps, notice a smell, or find the lid was left open.

Will there be water in the house during tank cleaning?

Not from that tank while it is empty. Cleaning one home tank usually takes a few hours. Where there is a ground tank and a roof tank, they are done one after the other so the interruption is shorter.

Do you clean underground tanks as well as roof tanks?

Yes. Ground tanks collect the most sediment because the supply arrives there first. They need safe access and good ventilation, which we check before anyone goes in.

Which filter do I need?

For sand and rust, a sediment filter on the main line. For taste and drinking water, a multi-stage filter under the kitchen sink. For heavy scale, protection on the line that feeds the heaters.

How often are filter cartridges changed?

It depends on the filter and on how much sediment your water carries. Sediment cartridges often last three to six months. A cartridge that has turned brown, or a drop in pressure, means it is due.

Is it safe to drink the water after the tank is disinfected?

Yes, once the tank has been rinsed and refilled. A faint chlorine smell for the first day is normal and fades as the water is used.
